Nintendo DSi announced during Japanese Nintendo Media Summit
October 2nd, 2008
During its Nintendo Media Summit press conference in Japan, Nintendo’s CEO Satoru Iwata has revealed the Nintendo DSi, the latest Nintendo handheld with an even slicker design and more features than the extremely popular Nintendo DS Lite.
The Nintendo DSi is 12% or 2.6 millimeters slimmer than the Nintendo DS Lite, but Nintendo had to sacrifice the GBA slot in order to make the Nintendo DSi smaller. The Nintendo DSi has two beautiful 3.25 inch screens and better speakers. The device has a 3 megapixel on the outside and a 0.3 megapixel VGA camera located next to the DSi’s microphone, both have a 640×480 resolution. Thanks to these cameras, the DSi has different camera and audio functions delivering new and innovative gameplay.
There were rumors that the NDSi has two touch-screens, but there’s only one touch screen. Only the bottom screen of the DSi is a touch-screen and can be used for adjusting sound playback, editing pictures and other new features. You can export pictures to your DSi with SD-cards, but the device also has some internal memory for storing apps purchased in the Nintendo DSi Shop. Some of these apps will be free, others will cost 200, 500 or 800 Nintendo Points. Japanese gamers who purchase the Nintendo DSi by March 2010 will receive 1000 Nintendo Points as a gift.
The Nintendo DSi will come out in Japan on November 1st for 18900 Yen. More details to come!

um.. there are a couple of problems with your page. there is a 3.0 MPix on the outside of the DSi and the inside one is 0.3 and also it is not 28900 the japanese site shows that it is only 18900 yen. 28900 would be like 250 dollars.. thanks.

There are two cameras, but both are .3 megapixels. Your sentence at the moment:
“The device has a 3 megapixel on the outside and a 0.3 megapixel VGA camera located next to the DSi’s microphone, both have a 640×480″
Doesn’t make any sense. If the resolution is 640×480, then the camera is .3 Megapixels, not 3. Having a 10 megapixel camera ’set at 640×480′ would still be a .3 megapixel camera.

i’m truly upset with Nintendo over this gimmick of a system… what a waste… no GBA just to sacrifice a couple millimeters in the design? NO THANKS - I really don’t see this system taking off, it’s almost an insult to the many people who have bought the DS Lite recently, and people who have ALREADY upgraded to the DS Lite from the original… so you want them to upgrade again to a system that’s inferior to the one they already have because it’s “prettier?”
Nintendo it’s time to focus your energy on catering to the people who already own your system, and who have poured lots of money into there beloved DS’s… and not rubbing this new fancy, thinner, bigger screened, internet conectivity product in there faces just because you want to make an extra dollar. If i wanted a portable camera and internet i’d just buy an iPhone anyhow…
Very LAME Nintendo

hey, for the DSi, can you change the languages to english? (japanese-english), like on the DS lite) thanks and it is COOL
November 24th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
No you cant change languages yet on the japanese version but when it comes out in North America it will obviously. I think its good they got rid of the GBA slot i mean the games are like 20 years old and you can find much better sequels to them on the DS. Guitar hero on the DS was a mess and if you want games with motion sensitivity like Yoshi’s topsy turvy then go by yourself a Wii and experience real gaming.
